Canary Islands - Feurteventura

Canary Islands from 2009

Another of those Holidays

Another of our wonderful trips abroad, this time to the Canary Islands. Emma and I stayed at the usual Riu Hotel chain, which we were familiar with. This time it was the Oliva Beach Resort, and booked through TUI.

Feurteventura is very clean and pleasant place, catering well to the tourists, such as us. The all-inclusive package was our trademark style, and meant we had no worries about finding food and drink.

Our only battle was the daily scramble for sunbeds, which were always reserved with towels by people who probably put them there before going to bed.

Not to worry, because we were out and about more often than not.

360 degree view of hotel and the Beach

The island's main feature was the allegedly dormant volcano, and of course TUI offered add-on paid tours to see it. The day out was dramatic, in so far as the landscape was reminiscent of an alien planet. Of course, at the summit, not an accessible sort of place, the geyser spouting hot steam, hot enough to cook lunch.

The hotel was near the beach, and had evening entertainment. We made our own entertainment, playing cards and partaking the free booze. The town was a bus ride away, and when we went, extremely quiet.

There was a land-train taking us around the town of Corralejo, but at all times you could not miss the extremely large volcanic mounds in the distance.
